There are two strands in HCC's attempts to build an incinerator at New Barnfield.
One strand is the Planning Application, to which 6300 objections were made in Jan 2012, which was approved by a majority of HCC in Oct 2012, and which is now on hold with the Department of Communities and Local Government, who can reject it or call a Public Inquiry.
The second strand is the HCC Waste Strategy for the whole county. The Waste Core Strategy has been to a hearing in front of an inspector, and has been approved by HCC. However, the accompanying Waste Site Allocations document has not yet been to a hearing in public in front of an independent inspector. The Waste Site Allocations document went out to consultation in Nov/Dec 2012 (one of a series of consultations on it.)
HCC received 2317 objections to the inclusion of New Barnfield in the list of waste sites.
This is a very strong response, and these objections will be seen by the independent inspector when the Waste Site Allocations document goes to a hearing in public, later this year.
HCC will put all the responses on the hertsdirect website, but they have not yet completed this.
