MEANWHILE

1. We are still awaiting a decision by the Dept of Communities and Local Govt on whether they will “call-in” the decision by Herts County Council to grant planning permission for an incinerator at New Barnfield. The DCLG can reject the incinerator plan, or call a Public Inquiry. We hope to hear the decision in January.

2. The Information Commissioner has now ruled that Veolia and HCC must provide to the public the WRATE assessment for the incinerator, which we asked for before the Planning decision was made, and which we say should have been available to the Herts County Councillors who made that decision. The WRATE assessment gives detail of the carbon emissions.

3. Thousands of objections to the inclusion of New Barnfield as a waste site in the Proposed Submission Waste Site Allocations document were sent to Herts CC Planning dept by the closing date of Dec 21st, and these will be shown on www.hertsdirect.org. These objections will be very useful when an independent inspector considers the Waste Site Allocations document at a hearing in public, later this year.
