HUGE RESPONSE TO WASTE SITE CONSULTATION

Latest NewsPosted by Cathy Sat, December 22, 2012 19:50:37

HUGE NUMBER OF RESPONSES AGAINST NEW BARNFIELD AS A WASTE SITE SENT TO HCC IN RECENT CONSULTATION

Herts County Council’s Consultation on Waste Site Allocations Proposed Submission Document has now closed. By the closing date of Dec 21st 2012, 2028 responses on the HAI simplified response forms had been taken to the Spatial Planning dept at Herts County Council by Cathy, Sec of HAI. This is in addition to batches of responses that were delivered by other people, and to responses posted or emailed or put directly on to the Limehouse consultation website by individuals and organisations.

So, even more objections to the use of New Barnfield as a waste site were sent this time than to the previous Waste Sites Consultation in Spring 2012.

Herts County Council are now in the process of putting all responses on to the Limehouse consultation website, and in sending acknowledgement letters or emails to everyone who responded. You can look on hertsdirect.org to see if your response is there.

Congratulations to all those who responded, and especially to all those who spent time and effort collecting responses from other people.

The Waste Site Allocations document will be examined at a Hearing in Public, in front of an independent inspector, some time in 2013. Representatives of HAI, and representatives of other organisations, and some other members of the public, will attend this hearing and put the case against the use of New Barnfield as a waste site. The huge number of objections to the use of the site is therefore very important.

POSSIBLE “CALL-IN” BY DEPT OF COMMUNITIES AND LOCAL GOVT STILL AWAITED

We have been told that the Dept of Communities and Local Government will not decide before Christmas on whether or not to “call-in” Veolia’s Planning Application to build an incinerator on the New Barnfield site. The Planning Application, agreed by HCC on Oct 24th, is still subject to a holding direction by the DCLG. We are now expecting to hear their decision in January 2013. The DCLG can “call-in” in the Planning Application, and may decide to hold a Public Inquiry.

(N.B. This Planning Application process is separate from the HCC Waste Site Allocations process).

Best wishes to all our supporters for a Merry Christmas

and a Happy (incinerator-free) New Year.
